Self Use Trap
NOTE: All ranges will be closed March 22 and April 19 due to the High School Trap schoot!
The Self-loading trap program is a program open to the members of the Lincoln Chapter of the Izaak Walton League. Members can buy a Self-loading Trap card and this allows the member card holder, his family, and guests to come out and use the trap house closest to the road for trap shooting.
The trap is open for use by the card holders whenever the club is not using the trap. The club uses this trap during league shooting nights and some other club functions. The trap range is equipped with lights and is available for use until 10:00 PM. Complete rules and the definition of guests and family members is explained in the hand outs which accompany the trap card and in the attached Self-Loading Trap Safety and Operating Instructions file and the Self-Loading Trap Rules and Regulations file in this web site. . The safe use of the trap will be explained to the new member card holders when they buy their card.
Proper and safe gun handling is important. We stress keeping the action open and empty until the shooter is in position to shoot. With the gun pointed down range one shell is dropped into the chamber. The chamber is closed, the gun is brought to the shoulder and after the gun is fired the gun is again safe. At no time should the magazine of repeating shotguns or auto-loading shotguns be loaded. We do not have the capability to throw more than one rock so at no time is it necessary to put more than one shell into the gun.
