300 YARD INFORMAL

The 300 Yard Open Shoot is held on the third Saturday of every month. It is held on the 300- yard range and is open to all of our members and non- members as well. The cost for non- members participating in this activity is $10.00.

We usually run three shooting relays with the first one starting about 9:00 am. So you don’t have to be an early riser if you don’t want to be. Any type of high-powered rifle, or black powder rifle, can be shot during the 45-minute session. You can shoot two or three rifles during this time period if you want.

I am guessing that since you have been shooting your rifle you may already have some type of front rest and rear sandbag. If not, we can usually fix you up with a stable support to shoot off. A Bi-pod attached to the front and a rear bunny ear bag work well for a lot of shooting applications. If you’re still thinking of buying something but don’t know what, stop out and take a look at what some of the shooters are using. You’ll see some different rests and maybe one will be just the ticket for you.

If you have your own targets we will be glad to post those, or we will supply targets at fifty cents apiece ($.50). We have orange sight in that is very popular because it shows up bullet holes the distances of 200/300 yards. Depending on scope power and the distance you are shooting a spotting scope may be needed. But don’t worry if you don’t have one, one can usually find one to borrow for a while.

This shooting activity is a practice session for most of the shooters that show up to shoot. They are checking loads or finding out where their rifles are hitting at these farer distances. It is very helpful if your rifle already has been sighted-in at 100 yards. Even some our better shooters have a difficult time trying to bore sight a rifle at 200 yards to hit paper. So if you find yourself wanting to stretch that 308 or 270 out past 100 yards, come-on out and join us.

(NOTE THE 100-YD AND PISTOL RANGES ARE NOW OPEN DURING THESE SHOOTS)

NOTE: All events are now listed on the calendar only. For best results contact the match director to confirm any last minute changes.
